Topics

The three objectives assigned to ISVV (research, teaching, and technology transfer) cover six main transversal topics which aim at helping the vine and wine industry :

- Improving vine and wine quality through a better knowledge of
  • the chemistry and physicochemistry of aromas and phenolic compounds
  • the functional genomics of microorganisms mediating the vinification
  • the ecophysiology and genetics of grapevine and its rootstocks

- Explaining the biological properties of polyphenols through the study of their effects on :

  • the stimulation of plant natural defences,
  • human health (food or pharmacological supply)

- Optimizing the viticultural practices in order to maintain sustainable viticulture through the validation of new protection strategies like :

  • prevention of stock diseases,
  • efficient but rationalized use of phytochemicals,
  • biological, biotechnological or genetical methods

- Improving the production processes that would be environmentally safe, through the:

  • knowledge of soil characteristics and quality,
  • search for environmentally safe methods
  • processing of vineyard and wine-making effluents

- Improving the economical efficiency of the vine and wine industry through the knowledge of:

  • innovation strategies of vine and wine companies,
  • efficiency of the production and trading structures
  • socio-economical dynamics of vine and wine industries,
  • comparative advantages of the vine and wine Aquitaine economy

- Developing the legal, cultural and economical dimensions of the vine and wine business:

  • status of quality wine producers,
  • status and managing of vine and wine companies,
  • status of the product,
  • consumer’s protection,
  • global trade and concurency on the products and the production techniques,
  • cultural role of vine and wine,
  • economy of innovation
